Monika Janssen, BSc, DVM

Dr. Janssen grew up in farm country not too far from Oshawa and was very lucky to have been surrounded by a wide variety of critters growing up! Like many in the field, Dr. Janssen knew at a very young age that a career involving animals was in her future. It was during a high school co-op placement at a veterinary clinic that she realized she wanted to become a veterinarian.

Following completion of her degree in the biomedical science honours program at the University of Guelph, Dr. Janssen attended the Ontario Veterinary College and graduated in 2013. During her university years Dr. Janssen feels very fortunate to have had a multitude of incredible work experiences. These include summers working at the Toronto Zoo on conservation projects, traveling Australia volunteering at various wildlife hospitals and reptile rehabilitations centres, and working at the University of Guelph’s Animal Health Laboratory.

Following graduation, Dr. Janssen accepted a job at a mixed animal practice where she worked for 2 years in beautiful Thunder Bay, Ontario. During her time there she treated a wide variety of animals, both small and large, including wildlife and exotics. Dr. Janssen is very excited to be returning home to her roots here in southern Ontario and even more excited to be joining the Oshawa Animal Hospital team. Dr. Janssen not only has a special interest in exotic and pocket pets, but is also soft tissue surgery, nutrition, and rehabilitation. She is looking forward to working with our amazing veterinary team.
